Uncharted 2 and Live Audio

I have the opportunity to come to Passion 2010 this year but the only problem was that I had no place to stay. But me being me, I packed up my stuff and took the 4hr trek to Atlanta, with no place to stay. But God being God, provided a place for me to stay with a few friends of a friend. These guys were really awesome to me and I owe them big time! But while staying at their house I got to partake in beautiful 7.1 HD surround sound, and the game Uncharted 2. All I can say is, wow. The audio experience is unlike anything I have ever experienced, you hear the action in relation to where you are in the game. If you move around in the game the audio moves in relation to where you move. It’s hard to describe but incredible to behold.

All this audio delight got me thinking as a FOH guy. When will this kind of experience come to live audio? And when it does what will the FOH engineer’s job look like? Whenever I mix live, I consider myself not just some tech geek but part of the worship experience, and can’t wait until HD audio and surround sound comes to a live venue. The technical know how will have expand, but the emersion into the experience will expand even greater.

Google Wave

So we have been using googlewave in a Q&A application with our youth. Check out this video! In what ways are you using googlewave? Feel free to comment!

GoogleWave Q&A Application from Chris Fenner on Vimeo.

Our setup:
Cell phone number where students can text questions (could use a online service but we just use a blackberry)
One computer, located at the front, for the speaker to view the questions
Computer to input questions (this computer pulls double duty as ProPresenter computer)
Multiple Volunteers researching biblical answers to the questions, all on the same wave.

Hope this helps! Next project will be using CamTwist to display live polling results inside ProPresenter. Stay tuned for that!
